College presidents unite in opposition to proposed tuition tax

Eight college and university presidents stood united today against a proposed 1 percent tuition tax on students that they consider unfair and illegal.

PASSHE FACULTY COMPLEMENT NOT KEEPING PACE WITH STUDENT GROWTH

The 14 universities of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) have established themselves as preferred destinations for the state’s high school graduates.  In 2008-09, PASSHE enrollment climbed for the 12th straight academic year – and the past seven years have featured new record enrollment highs.  Nearly 90% of PASSHE’s 112,597 students are Pennsylvania residents.

When Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell delivered his 2009-10 state budget address in February, he said, “Education is the best defense against recession.  While it is true that people from all walks of life have been impacted in these tough times, it is also a fact that college graduates are faring much better than anyone else in today’s job market.”

Cheyney Plans to Reduce Academic Departments

On Monday, May 4, Cheyney University’s administration will implement a new plan that will reduce the number of academic departments on campus.
