Bullying Survey
The bullying survey at Kutztown University was implemented between 4/28/08 -
7/17/08. 154 employees anonymous volunteered to participate in the survey
and were asked to base their responses on interactions with other Kutztown
University employees within the last five years of employment here. Several
unions did not respond to the request to participate and therefore only
seven staff members participated. Paul Quinn is currently working with the
AFSCME President to get their union to participate in the survey during the
spring 2009 semester. Below are links to the: full survey results,
highlights and recommendations as result of the survey, and the first draft
of a Employee Civility Policy. Please share this information with your
departments and be prepared to discuss it at Rep Council.

Faces of APSCUF
"Faces of APSCUF" appears regularly in the Keystone student newspaper.
| Dr. William Towne |
One of the responsibilities of Kutztown University Professor Dr. William Towne of the Biology Department is to serve as chairman of APSCUF’s Strike Committee.
APSCUF is currently in the early stages of negotiating a new faculty contract with the management of the State System of Higher Education in Harrisburg. In past
negotiations, the System’s managers have generally failed to negotiate reasonably, offering many proposals that would degrade the quality of the education we can offer our students. That is
why APSCUF is preparing for the possibility of a strike, which is our only means of forcing the System’s managers to join us in ensuring that we can continue to offer our students the best
possible education.
We do not want a strike, of course, but we will be ready to conduct one if necessary to defend the quality of your experience at Kutztown University. |

| Dr. Jim Delle |
One of the current responsibilities of Kutztown University Professor Dr. Jim Delle,
Anthropology/Sociology Department is to serve as chair of APSCUF’s Academic Concerns Committee. This is an important job, as APSCUF truly believes that our primary mission as faculty
members is to serve the students here at Kutztown to the best of our collective abilities.We know that teaching cannot happen without its converse side, learning, and we are
committed to making your learning experiences at Kutztown as positive as they
can be. The Academic Concerns Committee deals with a variety of issues ranging from academic policy, like any proposed changes to the General Education
curriculum at KU, to our shared teaching and learning conditions, like the quality of our classrooms and maintaining reasonable student to teacher ratios.
Although we officially represent the faculty, we are focused on issues directly relevant to the student experience, and we are here, in the end for YOU!

| Dr. Andrew Arnold |
| Professor Arnold is the Interim Director of the Honors program, and an Assistant Professor of History. As a scholar who studies the history of
labor and business Prof. Arnold is a firm supporter of APSCUF. In his scholarship he, has long argued that labor unions are an important, functional element of strong economies
and strong institutions. KU needs APSCUF, he suggests, for the same reasons KU needs a strong student government: to insist that administrators consider all stakeholders in
their decisions.
As a member of the APSCUF Public Relations committee, he pushes to make a single point: KU faculty fight through APSCUF to serve our students, and to nurture KU's future. He
is also the one who came up with the Kutztown Prof. baseball caps that so many faculty have been sporting.

| Dr. Nancy Butler |
Professor Butler is an aquatic biologist and invertebrate zoologist whose research
focuses on the biology and ecology of marine and freshwater plankton. She has taken students to do field research on topics as diverse as the effect of introduced fish
on alpine lake plankton communities and the formation of plankton swarms on coral reefs, to places as far removed (elevationally as well as geographically) as the Bob
Marshall Wilderness Area in Montana and Discovery Bay, Jamaica.
In addition to her work on a number of other Departmental and University committees, Dr. Butler serves as the chairman of APSCUF’s Temporary Faculty Committee. APSCUF recognizes that temporary faculty have in
the past been overlooked in the negotiation process, despite the ever-increasing role those faculty play in your education.
In their commitment to upholding your ability to obtain a quality educational experience at Kutztown University, Dr. Butler and the Temporary Faculty Committee are
working hard to ensure that the needs and concerns of faculty in temporary positions are given due consideration in the current contract negotiations.

| Dr. Paul Quinn |
Dr. Quinn (Physical Sciences) is a theoretical physicist whose main research interests center on the movement of granular materials,
research that has implications for everything from cans of mixed nuts to the movement of soil particles during earthquakes. One of Dr. Quinn’s side projects also gained
him widespread recognition (he appeared recently on PBS) and a patent – he has discovered a technique for doubling the size of popcorn when it is popped!
Dr. Quinn’s parents were both union presidents, so he comes to his involvement in APSCUF naturally. He is a delegate to the APSCUF Executive Committee, and chairs the Legislative Committee. He also serves on the
Strike Committee.
In all of these roles, Dr. Quinn sees the preservation of quality working conditions for the faculty as vitally important. Whether through keeping class sizes down,
maintaining high standards through faculty oversight of the tenure and promotion process, or fighting to keep faculty control of your curriculum, APSCUF is working to
ensure that Kutztown will attract and retain top-quality faculty (like Dr. Quinn) who will have the time to devote to you, our students.

| Dr. John Riley |
Dr. Riley is a member of the Political Science Department, and chairman of the APSCUF Student Liaison Committee. The APSCUF Student Liaison
Committee serves as a bridge between the faculty and students. They host a series of events designed to further the common goal of students and faculty: a quality
education. For example, each year this committee is instrumental in awarding scholarships to students. Scholarship applications will be available in the Spring Semester
in the APSCUF Office (117 Beekey).
